The Haven towns and forts in the world of Ashan. It should be noted that many of the specialized towns in Heroes of Might and Magic V and its expansions show up multiple times in different locations (much like the generic or mercenary heroes). Regarding Heroes V towns, this article assumes unless they are mentioned in the text or dialog, or are unique campaign specific towns, their appearances in these locations are likely non-canon (though the towns themselves are still canon).

Argia[]

Biography[]

Argia is a village in the heart of the Empire controlled by the Inquisition. This is the first village Anastasya captures on her way to free Jorgen from the clutches of Inquisition.

Gameplay[]

In the Wake of Adversity[]

Though there is no objective to capture this village, it would be extremely difficult and perhaps near impossible to complete the scenario with it standing against you and without using it as a base to attack the next town.

Ashwick[]

Biography[]

Many give Ashwick a wide berth because they believe the town is a refuge for Demons. The reason for this is the smell of the numerous sulfur bogs and mud pools nearby, whose contents are the main source of income for the townsfolk.OffBck

Ashwick is a town within the Wolf Duchy. Shortly before the Second Eclipse this town may have been captured the Sandor and Orc forces on their way to rescue his sister Irina. During the Second Eclipse, this town was captured by demon forces. Despite originally invading the Wolf Duchy to kill Duke Gerhart, Irina, recognizing the demon threat, captures this town to prevent it falling to the demons. Despite this the effects of the Mother Breeder nearby causes the pregnant women of Ashwick to give birth to monstrous offspring.

No Country For Orc Friends[]

This is the first town the player can capture. As part of the side quest Rampage all towns and cities (including Portsmith) must be captured for blood points.

Death-in-Life and Life-in-Death‏‎[]

One of the first objectives on this map is to capture this town. If Irina is blood aligned she will kill the town's pregnant women to stop them producing monstrous offspring, but if she is tear aligned she orders her priests to try and heal them.

Sulfur Wealth: +2 Sulfur per week (on day 1 of each week).

This town was first introduced as one of the generic specialized towns in Heroes of Might and Magic V but only a storyline appearance in Might & Magic: Heroes VI.

Ashwood[]

Biography[]

Once merely a large encampment of tents near a couple of caravan trails and a river, over time this town grew into a thriving commercial center. Today you can find anything you may need in Ashwood, and at a very reasonable priceOffBck

During the 6th eclipse this town had undergone a rebellion against the rule of King Nicolai. Due to the need for troops and lack of time to negotiate with the rebels, Queen Isabel invaded and took the town. Due to an approaching demon army lead by Demonlord Kraal Isabel moved to secure the area by eliminating demon scouts and building a jousting arena to attract paladins. Finally she defeated Kraal, saving the town.

Taking this town is the end objective of this map.

The Siege[]

This town is Isabel's base throughout this mission and her starting point. She also needs to build a Jousting arena here.

This town is exclusive to the Heroes of Might and Magic V campaign maps Rebellion (H5) and The Siege. It uses nearly the same biography as Bailey.

Baile Adharc[]

Biography[]

Baile Adharc is a town located near Falcon's Reach. During the Second Eclipse and the Siege of Falcon's Reach it is captured by Demon forces, but is later recaptured by Duke Anton.

This is the only town on the map that does not need to be captured or somehow neutralized. However given its very close proximity to Caer Aonbhean it is unwise to leave it.

Baile Beanna[]

Biography[]

This town is located near Falcon's Reach and on a road leading to the Stag Duchy. During the Second Eclipse and the Siege of Falcon's Reach forces of the Stag Duchy gathered here. Once the Griffin army under Duke Anton reached them, they joined forces to quash the demon threat.

Baile Giall[]

Biography[]

This town is located near Falcon's Reach on a route to the Wolf Duchy. During the Second Eclipse and the Siege of Falcon's Reach this town was taken over by Demon Legions. However the necromancer Sveltana commanding two Legions of undead managed to take the town.

This town is unreachable early in the game as it is walled off, but continues to send out enemy heroes via one way portals. Fortunately it is automatically taken by Sveltana once you move south enough towards it and the gates are opened to that area.

Biography[]

A town located near Falcon's Reach and on a route to the Griffin Duchy, this town was Duke Anton's forward base for repelling the siege on the capital during the Second Eclpise. Although it came under Demon assault, Anton was able to hold them off before advancing on the enemy.

Baile Liam[]

Biography[]

This sign indicates the recent construction of an Imperial Outpost that was most certainly named after the regretted Emperor Liam Falcon, slain by a Prince of Sheogh during the most recent Bloodmoon Eclipse.OffBck

This outpost was built by Imperial Pirate Hunters shortly after the second eclipse on the Chitchat islands, one of the Savage Islands. On his quest to defeat the Thunderbird Crag Hack took this out post and bested the imperial commander Jon Morgan, unbeknown to be his son. Upon learning this knowledge Crag Hack allowed Jon Morgan and the imperial forces to leave, but kept the outpost.

Biography[]

In the thickets around Balmville miraculous herbs grow; the town physicians make healing balms and elixirs of them. The townsfolk are so adept in using herbs that they’ve proclaimed their town the Capital of Healing.OffBck

Baywatch[]

Biography[]

Baywatch is a town located on the Agyn Peninsula near the Western Border of the Unicorn Duchy. During Second Eclipse Kiril, in his hunt for the Invisible Library captures this town.

Scenarios[]

The Marriage of Heaven and Hell[]

Baywatch is one of 3 neutral towns that can be captured by Kiril. If the player has followed the path of tears up to this point, an optional objective is available, requiring you to NOT convert any town or fort on the map. This includes Baywatch.

Notes[]

Baywatch is likely a reference to the famous TV show of the same name. Unlike Portmeyron, Seahaven and Sorpigal by the Sea, Baywatch does not make an appearance in Might and Magic X despite being in the Agyn Peninsula.

Bayworth[]

Biography[]

The name of this Griffin Empire city is synonymous with seafaring. The Empire's finest shipyards are located here, and the competition ensures that quality craft can be purchased at advantageous prices.OffBck

Not long before the Second Eclipse this town was ruled by Rufus. The town however was raided by the pirate captain Crag Hack much to Rufus's humiliation. During the 2nd eclipse the town was attacked by demons lead by the demon prince of pain. Before dying Rufus managed to slay the demon prince with his warhammer however.

During Queen Isabel's War this town was used as a staging area for the joint Necromancer and Griffin Empire assault on the Silver City port city of Hikm.

Countless Fleet: The town's shipyard builds ships for half the standard cost (500 Gold + 5 Wood).

Bayworth is only seen during the Heroes of Might and Magic V campaign map The Attack, but is mentioned frequently in Pirates of the Savage Sea and Might & Magic X: Legacy

Blackfang[]

Biography[]

Located in the Blackfang Marshes, this is one of the oldest Griffin villages in history. Shortly before the Second Eclipse it would be captured by Duke Gerhart of the Wolf Duchy during his incursion into Griffin territory. This lead to siege and recapture of the village by forces under Duke Slava of the Griffin Duchy.

Capturing this town, defended by Gerhart, is the final objective of the map.

Borderkeep[]

Biography[]

This signpost marks the line between the Griffin and Wolf Duchies and the townsfolk of Borderkeep have more war stories to tell than most in the Holy Falcon Empire.OffBck

This town was captured by Duke Anton on his way to investigate Naga activity in the Wolf Duchy during the Second Eclipse.

Brightwood[]

Biography[]

While the Griffin Empire's magical skills tend to center around the worship of Elrath and the talents of the priesthood, Brightwood has always been a center of learning and study for those who believe in more of the arcane than can be found in the worship of the Dragon of Light.OffBck

During the 6th Eclipse this town was captured by demons and its mage guilds/seminary of Light magic ruined. Queen Isabel managed to liberate this town and rebuilt the mage guild to help her learn light magic to combat demonlord Agrael.

Brookshire[]

Biography[]

Established as a training center by King Nicolai, Brookshire immediately attracted heroes who hoped to win glory on the battlefields under their charismatic king.OffBck

Brookshire is a small town located in the Falcon Province. Shortly after the 4th eclipse and the death of Maeve Falcon accusation arose of Ivan Griffin's involvement, which lead to formal dual between Ivan and Amílcar Bull. This dual ended when the blade Amílcar was using, the Blade of Truth was shattered by Ivan's Blade of Revelation.

Notes[]

Despite Ivan's dual taking place in 843 YSD the in game biography states this town was established by King Nicolai, who was born about a century years later. Its possible that there are more than one Brookshire or that the training center was established in the already built town. Although it is stated as being in the Falcon Province (presumably the same as the Imperial Province), it is unknown if this town was within the new Imperial Province when Griffin Empire came to be as this Province had slightly different borders.

Brynwood[]

Biography[]

Brynwood's garrison paid dearly for the town's freedom in the years of the last Eclipse war: only one swordsman survived the battle. In commemoration of this event, the title of "Last Fighter" was decreed, and an additional Footman is enrolled for service every week.OffBck

Located in the Stag Duchy, during the civil war following the 6th Eclipse this town rebelled along with the rest of the Dutch against Queen Isabel's rule. It was either captured Freyda or joined her after she freed Duke Duncan from Queen Isabel's custody.

The Choice[]

Though this map requires you to capture a rebel town to help liberate Duncan, this one is unlikly to be the first choice due to the distance between it, the area you start from, and the area where Duncan is held. It can be captured before relesing Ducan, otherwise it automatically joins you when he is released.

Presumably Tier 3 Military Trainer: +1 to tier 3 creature's growth.

This town is exclusive to the Hammers of Fate campaign scenario The Choice. Its background is unique.

Caer Aonbhean[]

Biography[]

Located South East of Falcon's Reach, Caer Aonbheanis one of four villages surrounding the Falcon capital. Though captured during the Second Eclipse by Demons, it was liberated by Duke Anton.

Castelcross[]

Biography[]

A town guarding the Falcon Empires side of Nelsham's Scar in the Bull Duchy. This town was controlled by Lady Cordelia having been giving the role of guarding Nelsham's Scar by Great Inquisitor Salvatore due to his suspicion of the Necromancers of the Heresh. During the events of the Second Eclipse, Kiril Griffin captured this town in order to advance into Heresh and capture the Mother Namtaru. In later years this town was used as a staging area for an assault on Hersh by Drew Falcon.

This town, defended by Cordelia must be taken to cross into Heresh.

A Selfish Prayer for Light[]

This is the enemies town. A barrier of light around its enterance prevents you from taking it. It can though bombarded as part of a secondary objective which reduces the number of heroes attacking from it.

On the map in the Ashan Compendium on the border of the Griffin Empire, the area where Castelcross should be is no longer under the control of the Griffin Empire, in uncontrolled territory, so it is possible the town was abandoned or destroyed.

Castelrose[]

Biography[]

Castlerose is described as the "Fortress of the Inquisition". It is the location were Jorgen was held in suspicion of being in league with the faceless. In order to rescue Jorgan and find out who murder her father, Anastasya invades Inquisitor territory before assaulting Castlerose and slaying Great Inquisitor Salvatore. Descending into the dungeons of the Fortress she frees the prisoners of the inquisition before facing a group of Glories to free Jorgen. Even after the Inquisitions became disbanded, Castlerose remains a grim and forbidding site, these tall buildings are one of the centers of the most fanatic followers of Elrath, dragon-god of Light. Their hearts are said to be as cold and unforgiving as the stone walls that encircle them.

In 843 YSD after the death of Empress Maeve Falcon and the destruction of Falcon's Reach by succubus Jezebeth, Duke Ivan Griffin tracked her down to the ruins of Castlerose and killed her.

Though it is mentioned to be in ruins by 843 YSD (on the Might & Magic: Heroes VII website) it is unclear if this was caused by Anastasya or by other events.

Castlegate[]

Biography[]

The objective of the builders that constructed the border town of Castlegate was to lay stout town walls capable of withstanding any attack. Over the course of its tumultuous history the town has often shown that the builders did their job quite well.OffBck

Strong walls: Each defense structure (walls, towers and gate) has 50 more Hit Points.

Chiaroscuro[]

Biography[]

This city is the capital of the Bull Duchy. It is located in the far south of the duchy and thus the empire.

Only seen in maps of the Empire in the Ashan Compendium so far.

Chillbury[]

Biography[]

According to rumour, drinking from the lakes and springs near Chillbury brings luck to those who live there. Though this is often dismissed as an old wives' tale, gamblers tend to be very cautious when they cast dice with someone from the town.OffBck

This town is located in the Wolf Duchy. During the civil war after Queen Isabel's War, this town was necromancer forces under Arantir and Ornella in order to make use of its nearby sacred site. Once this scared site and three others where captured Arantir could use them to destroy the magical barrier protecting Flammschrein. Unfortunelty this process required the death of whichever necormancer was placed within the sacred site would be killed by the ritual.

Heart of Darkness[]

This town must be captured in order to use its sacred site nearby.

Notes[]

This town had its canonical position is given by signposts pointing to it in the map Heart of Darkness.

Cherna Hills[]

Biography[]

Cherna Hills is a town located in or near the heartlands of the Griffin Duchy. During Duke Anton's war against the Alliance of Temperance, this town was under the control of the Spirit of Baron Djordje and his undead army. Although Anton liberated the town, Djordje's spirit would continue to cause problems for him throughout this conflict.

Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair[]

This town is the first you come across on this map. Its capture is required to proceed with the mission.

When first encountered this town is a Necropolis town before being converted to a Haven town.

Cogston[]

Biography[]

Hidden away among the thick forests, Cogston became a home for those who chase easy money and like to avoid publicity. Very few know the trails leading to the town, but those who end up there are richly rewarded with the latest gossip and secrets.OffBck

Information Center: The town's thieves guild offers more information (counts as 2 thieves guilds).

Cornadora[]

Biography[]

Cornadora is the Summer Palace of the Duke of Bull, and these magically shining gates attest to his power and regality. As the sun moves through the sky, the gates themselves change coloursOffBck

Cornadora is located in the South of the Bull Duchy, on a outcropped rock overlooking the sea. Shortly after the Second Eclipse Sandro sought to break into the palace to recover an artifact amongst the Duke of Bull's collection, the Staff of the Netherworld. With the aid of Lucretia he gained entry though the secret escape tunnels built into the palace and stole the Staff, though killed the current Duke of Bull, Ovidio.

It is impossible to capture this town, though it will constantly spawn heroes to attack you.

Corvino[]

Biography[]

This stone signpost is roughly hewn and very old. It resembles the people from Corvino who are notoriously poor and who have been recently plagued by periods of drought and starvation.OffBck Shortly after the second eclipse this Bull Duchy town was taken by Sandro to use as a base for his quest to gain the Staff of the Netherworld.

The Fall of the House of Bull[]

It would be near impossible to complete this scenario without capturing this town as its the only town on the map you can convert to Necropolis

Darkmoor[]

Biography[]

The signpost is made of the same black rock as that of the castle to which it points. Recently, in the last century or so, the name of Darkmoor has been etched into the rock in the Imperial language. Underneath the name are symbols far older, written in Dwarf.OffBck

Darkmoor is mentioned in signposts in the scenario Tempt Not a Desperate Man‏‎ only.

Denstadt[]

Denstadt is a city located in the east of the Falcon Empire. Five years after the Second Eclipse guards appeared to be disappearing in the city catacombs so Field Marshal Siegfried Brightblade dispatched a company of Windswords to investigate. Finding and defeating necromancers in the catacombs and a connected cemetery far away the Windswords returned the city only to find it under assault by the Orc Shaman of the Blackrock clan Shaar and her forces. The Windswords were victorious and Shaar was slain.

Devicey[]

Biography[]

Lost among the thick forests, Devicey quickly became home for those who chase easy money. Very few know the secret trails leading to the town, but if somebody manages to find Devicey they'd be richly rewarded - with the latest gossip and secrets.OffBck

Devicey is exclusive to the Heroes of Might and Magic V single scenario map Refugee This town uses the same build (specialization and background) as Cogston.

Dunmoor[]

Biography[]

Built along an invasion route favoured by the Demons, Dunmoor has withstood many sieges. Grim and Thick, the parapets and towers of its fortified walls have spelled the doom of many unwelcome guest.OffBck

During the 6th Eclipse this town was captured by demons. Godric Unicorn Liberated this town and managed to free Queen Isabel from a prison nearby. From this position they held out against multiple waves of demon attack. They also managed to located a Tear of Asha which they brought back to Dunmoor to help bolster the town. After eventually securing Dunmoor Godric moved off to aid King Nicolai against Agrael's forces.

It was thought by Godric that the Tear of Asha was eventually moved to Bel-Zeri and corrupted by Markal.

The Fall of the King[]

This town must first by liberated from demons by Godric, and then held though continuous Inferno assaults. After two assaults an additionally objective is given to find and bring a Tear of Asha to Dunmoor. This helps boast production and defences for the final Inferno assault.

This town is exclusive to the Heroes of Might and Magic V campaign map The Fall of the King. Its Biography is unique and not copied off another town.

Eastalon[]

Biography[]

Capital of the Griffin Duchy, it is known for its many wonders including Istvan’s Gardens, named after the Griffin Duchy founder. The Alliance of Temperance took this city during their war against Duke Anton. However Anton soon recaptured the town, defeating the defending army of Baron Gritchka.

Gameplay[]

This town, held by Gritchka, must be taken to complete the scenario. It is located in the Center of the map.

Notes[]

It was mentioned by Michael (H6) that during his time the location of Eastalon contained little more than a hut. It is unknown what became of Eastalon during the time of the Griffin Empire as the Griffin capital was Talonguard and the capital of what was once the Griffin Duchy, now the Raven Duchy, is Voron Peak.

Eastglade[]

Biography[]

This town is located within the Griffin Empire near the border with Irollan. In the years following the 5th Eclipse the Griffin Knight Dougal, whilst on route to an Archery contest in Halthilloth, was tasked with capturing this town from a group of Brigands that had taken root here. After capturing it however Dougal used this town to deal with an unexpected demon attack on the region and the tournament.

This town is exclusive to the Heroes of Might and Magic V standalone scenario Hot Pursuit. Though this town has an in game biography, it actually describes the nearby demon town of Ur-Jubaal instead.

Eastwall[]

Biography[]

Eastwall is a fort located in the Wolf Duchy. During the Second Eclipse may have been captured by Duke Anton in his efforts to defeat the Naga occupying the Wolf Duchy.

Tempt Not a Desperate Man‏‎[]

This is one of many forts that can be captured during this map. This particular one is found fairly early during the game.

Notes[]

Eastwall appears in game as a fort, not a town like most items populating this list. Eastwall could be a reference to the town of Westwall, mentioned by Zehir in Heroes of Might and Magic V.

Edenbrook[]

Biography[]

Edenbrook is a town located in the territory of the Inquisition. During Anastasya's fight to free Jorgan from the Inquisition, she come across this town and captures it.

Gameplay[]

In the Wake of Adversity[]

Like other towns on this map, capturing it not required, but it would make it very difficult to complete this map without taking this town and using it to build up an army.

Falcon's Reach[]

Forkriver (Griffin Duchy)[]

Biography[]

Forkriver is a town located near the heart of the Griffin Duchy. It sits on a small Island around which several tributaries converge into a larger river. Shortly before the Second Eclipse, this town was under the control of the Alliance of Temperance, a rebel movement built to combat Duke Anton's harsh crackdown on those whose worship is not towards Elrath, Dragon of Light. During this conflict Anton may have taken this town.

Gameplay[]

Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair[]

This is the second town found on this map. Anton must pass by it to proceed with the rest of the mission. Though its not a requirement to capture this town, it is very hard for the player to miss it.

Forkriver (Stag Duchy)[]

Biography[]

Enterprising rulers of Fork decided to capitalize on their town’s location at the crossing of trade routes and imposed a small levy for the right to pass through. As a result, there is a constant flow of coins into the town's coffers.OffBck

This town is located in the Stag Duchy. During the Civil war following Queen Isabel's War this town along with the rest of the Stag Duchy rebelled against Queen Isabel's rule. This town was captured by Queen Isabel's forces during the conflict.

This town is exclusive to the Hammers of Fate campaign map Duncan (scenario). The ingame background is the same as Northcross.

During the Civil war after Queen Isabel's War this underground town was involved in a three way fight between dark elves, dwarfs and Griffin forces. It may have been captured by by Ylaya on her way to find Raelag.

Biography[]

Many people wonder why it is that Glenheim seems to always field a few extra sons training as swordsmen, while most locals shrug with indifference at the question, a few old crones may wink slyly and nod up the river, where an old temple to a goddess of fertility hides.OffBck

Greystone[]

Biography[]

Greystone is named for the huge grey cliffs encircling the town. The cliffs are famous due to the richness of their mineral veins, and the fact that mining them generates much more ore than ordinary rock. Working the cliff faces is the main occupation of Greystone residents.OffBck

Greystone is located in or near to the Barony of Stormgrad. Shortly before the second eclipse the Griffin Duke Anton used this town as a starting location his attempts to force the nearby Orcs to convert to Elrath or leave.

Gryphon Hill[]

Biography[]

This fortress town is extremely old and is said to have been the far Southern Outpost of Ishtvan Griffin during his wars with the clans of the Wolf.OffBck

Unsurprisingly, Gryphon Hill's symbol is a griffin. After all, the town is situated among the hills where these majestic creatures hunt, nest and breed, almost every inhabitant of the town is involved in their capture, training, or sustenance.OffBck

This Griffin Duchy town is part of the Barony of Stormgrad under the control of Baron Djordje. Shortly before the second eclipse Duke Anton puts down a rebellion by Djordje and may have captured this town during the conflict.

Something is Rotten[]

This town is on one of two routes to Stromgrad and Djordje. Capturing this town is entirely optional and there is no in-game objective to capture it.

This town appears in Heroes of Might and Magic V and in the Might & Magic: Heroes VI campaign map Something is Rotten. The in game Background can be hard to find in Heroes V, but has been found by the community though other means.

Gustav's Bend (Stag Duchy)[]

Biography[]

Located far from the main shipping routes, the town of Gustav's Bend has to drag out a miserable existence. Its dwellers are mainly fishermen who can barley scrape by. Even the ships built in the local shipyards have to be sold off cheaply, otherwise few people would be able to afford them.OffBck

During the Civil war in the Empire after Queen Isebel's War this town was loyal to the Queen (actually Biara in disguise). In order to reach Talonguard and rescues her father Freyda and her rebel forces captured this town to make use of its ships to voyage on.

Gustav's Bend (Wolf Duchy)[]

Biography[]

Shortly before the 2nd eclipse this Wolf Duchy town was damaged or destroyed by a tsunami. Orc slaves were brought in order to rebuild the town and kept under the watch of Rosalie. However Rosalie was defeated and the Orcs (including the Shaman Torganeh freed, by the forces of Sandor, who was in the duchy to rescue his sister Irina.

During the 2nd Eclipse the Wolf Duchy would be invaded by demons and a lighthouse on a nearby island, used by the town would be taken. Irina who had returned with a Naga force either invaded the town, or helped it by liberating the nearby lighthouse of demons so the town could receive reinforcements from nearby islands.

Hardwick[]

Biography[]

At the start of the 6th eclipse this town was mentioned by Beatrice (H5) (actually Biara in disguise) to have been captured by demons.

Only mentioned during the first Heroes of Might and Magic V campaign map, The Queen (campaign) Since Beatrice was actually Biara in disguise and she was trying to tempt the queen into fighting it is unknown if the town was truly taken and not a lie.

Horncrest[]

Hunting Lodge[]

Biography[]

This particular old hunting lodge was belonged to Duke Gerhart and was situated in the heartlands of the Wolf Duchy. Shortly before the second eclipse Irina Griffin was held here after attacking her husband Gerhart. However Sandor was able to free her. It appears to have been destroyed during the second eclipse.

The hunting lodge was used as a prison for Irina after her fight with Gerhart. After learning she is being held here Sandor and Kraal lead an army to free Irina from the Lodge, fighting the Dukes nephew Markus on the way.

Notes[]

A Haven Fort is used to represent the lodge, with its only otherwise distinguishing feature being its name. Later when the Wolf Duchy is invaded by Demons in the map Death-in-Life and Life-in-Death‏‎, the Lodge is not seen and burnt ground is left in its place, so may have in fact been destroyed.

Isegrim[]

Biography[]

This immense signpost carved out of black marble in the shape of an imposing wolf ready to pounce on the reader does indeed indicate the correct route to Isegrim, but might give one pause to reconsider if going there is really necessary. The capitol of the Wolf Duchy is known for many things, but a friendly welcome is not one of them.OffBck

Isegrim, the Wolf Duchy Capital is located on the South-Eastern corner of the Duchy on top of a rocky peninsula. During the 2nd Eclipse, Irina, now leading a Naga army, would lay siege to this town and slay Duke Gerhart.

Capturing Isegrim and defeating its defender, Gerhart, is the final objective of this map and the Sanctuary Campaign.

Biography[]

This signpost has been chiseled out of a dark stone, probably the same material used to build the famous walls of the immense Wolf castle that protects Kriegspire and is reputed invincible.OffBck

Kriegspire is a wolf city located in the South East of the Duchy. It is also the city that Kaspar was born. Shortly before the 2nd eclipse Kriegspire may have been captured Orc by forces under Sandor as vengeance for the duchies Orc slavery. During the 2nd eclipse the Duchy was invaded by Demons. Although Irina also invaded the duchy (and simultaneously defeated the demons) it is unknown whether she captured this city or not.

La Segadora[]

Biography[]

This Bull Duchy barony used to be ruled by Lucretia but was passed onto her brother Giovanni by the newly appointed Duke Ovidio after Lucretia was alleged to have had a role in the death of the former Duke. In order to gain Lucretia's aid Sandro helped her reclaim the town.

In truth, Le Segadora was the birthplace and home of Sandro before his conversion to undeath.

Lostdale (Griffin Duchy)[]

Biography[]

Lostdale is a Griffin Duchy town located in the the Barony of Stormgrad. This town is likely captured by Duke Anton after the Stormgrad Baron, Djordje, rebelled against him.

Lostdale (Stag Duchy)[]

Biography[]

Hidden away among the thick forests, Lostdale became a home for those who chase easy money and like to avoid publicity. Very few know the trails leading to the town, but those who end up there are richly rewarded with the latest gossip and secrets.OffBck

This Stag Duchy town joined the rebellion again Queen Isabel like the rest of the Duchy shortly after Queen Isabel's War. After the rebels defeat at Horncrest this town was captured soon after. It may have been captured later again at two different times by rebel forces.

Lost Dale is exclusive to the Hammers of Fate campaign maps Negotiations, Laszlo (scenario) and The Decoupling. This town has same ingame background as Cogston. Given Lostdale appears as an enemy town in three different scenarios it is possible to capture the town three towns during the course of the expansion, but it is only necessary to capture it during the map Negotiations to complete a secondary objective.

Mausoleum[]

Biography[]

Not actually a town itself (though represented in game as one), this Mausoleum was the final resting place for members of the Griffin Clan. After converting to Elrath, Dragon of Light the Griffin Duchy used the Hall of Heroes as a burial ground for their Dukes instead. Though largely this was due to change of religion, this Mausoleum was also considered too remote.

Shortly before the Second Eclipse the site was captured by Toghrul, seeking vengeance on the Griffin family for injustices caused by the late Pavel Griffin. Toghrul planned to use a captured Orc Shaman named Ulah to torment the spirits of the Griffin family and thus weaken the living members. His plans was stopped however and he was cast back to Sheogh, while Ulah was freed and the Mausoleum cleansed of demon taint.

Many years later during Duke Gerhart's incursion into Griffin lands, Slava would use this Mausoleum as a base of operations.

Meadowfair[]

Biography[]

Once merely a large encampment of tents near a couple of caravan trails and a river, over time this town grew into a thriving commercial center. Today you can find anything you may need in Meadowfair, and at a very reasonable priceOffBck

One of the towns of the Stag Duchy which rebelled against Queen Isabel's rule following the 6th eclipse. This town may have been taken by Freyda during her attempts to rescue Duke Duncan. Regardless it joined her after freeing Duncan once the rebels knew she was on their side.

Merlon[]

Biography[]

Founded in an area full of field, brush, and forest, Merlon has been popular with hunters ever since it was a tiny hamlet. Now by rights considered the archers' capital, it is the ideal place to get weapons, supplies, advice, guides, and quality taxidermy.OffBck

This town is located in the Wolf Duchy. During the civil war after Queen Isabel's War, this town was necromancer forces under Arantir and Ornella in order to make use of its nearby sacred site. Once this scared site and three others where captured Arantir could use them to destroy the magical barrier protecting Flammschrein. Unfortunately this process required the death of whichever necromancer was placed within the sacred site would be killed by the ritual.

This underground town, located under the mountains to the West of the Falcon Empire was operated by a faction known Twilight Knights, seemingly led by Jorgen. After the events of the Second Eclipse this town was used as part of the defense against the oncoming forces of the Army of Light and was likely taken.

Millfield[]

Biography[]

Grain country - that’s what the lands around Millfield are known as in the Griffin Empire. Since time immemorial this area has supplied bread for the rest of the country. Peasants are quite willing to come and live in Millfield, knowing that they can always find work there.OffBck

Newpost[]

Biography[]

Established as a local militia training center by Queen Isabel, heroes come to Newpost from all over the region to sign up in the service of the Griffin Empire.OffBck

During Queen Isabel's War and the invasion of the Silver Cities by Griffin and Necromancer forces this town was built on the same island as Lorekeep and Hikm and used as a base for Griffin forces during the invasion. When Godric rebelled against Markal and Queen Isabel his daughter Freyda was held in a prison outside this town as a hostage, though this did not cause Godric to leave his Hikm. Later in the war, duirng the liberation of the Silver Cities by Zehir he captured Newpost as well as lorekeep.

Nilshaven[]

Biography[]

The excellent craftsmanship of this signpost is a testimony to the wealth of the port city to which it points. Tremendous warships, and a few merchant vessels, decorate the stone, seeming to indicate the commercial investments in Nilshaven are strategically protected.OffBck The capital city of the Wolf Duchy, Nilshaven has long been a major port for the Falcon Empire and its rustic predecessors. With an excellent natural harbor and relative wealth, the city council has for ages worked hard to make this the best defended harbor on the Jade Ocean. Shortly before the Second eclipse this city may have been captured by Orc forces under Sandor in order to avenge the use of Orc Slaves. During the second eclipse and the demon invasion of the Wolf Duchy Irina returned to the duchy to kill Gerhart. Gerhart's nephew Markus took up the position to defend Nishaven. It is unknown if Irina invaded the city or spared it.

Biography[]

This town is located in the Griffin Duchy in a high mountainous region, North East of Eastalon. Under the command of Baron Igor, this town joined the Alliance of temperance and rebelled against Duke Anton's purge of those who did not worship Elrath, Dragon of Light. This town however would later be recaptured by Anton.

Northcross[]

Biography[]

Enterprising rulers of Northcross decided to capitalize on their town’s location at the crossing of trade routes and imposed a small levy for the right to pass through. As a result, there is a constant flow of coins into the town's coffers.OffBck

Located in the South of the Griffin Empire on the Borders with the Silver Cities, this town guards the regions water. During the Civil War following Queen Isabel's War this town was captured by Gotai in order to aid his horde in their push into the Silver Cities to reach Shahibdiya.

Pleasant Valley[]

Biography[]

Located in among the eastern mountains of the Griffin Duchy Pleasant Valley is both the name of a valley and the village within it. Despite being build in a harsh area it has been around for centuries before the second eclipse. The village is captured during Torghrul's raid on the Griffin Duchy but is later freed by the forces of Slava Griffin and Kraal.

Portsmith[]

Biography[]

This beautiful signpost pointing towards the wealthy city of Portsmith has been tagged with graffiti, apparently the work of a prankster. The words "Demon Lovers" have been smeared in ruthless fashion using white paint. The populations of the Wolf Duchy are apparently extremely competitive and know no limit when it comes to denigrating their commercial rivals.OffBck

Shortly before the second eclipse this Wolf Duchy city may have been captured by Orc forces under Sandor in order to avenge the duchies slavery of Orcs. During the 2nd Eclipse this city may have been again capted or spared, this time by Irina and her Naga forces.

Biography[]

This town is located somewhere in the North of the Griffin Empire, near the borders with Grimheim. During the civil war after Queen Isabel's war this town was part of the the rebellion against Queen Isabel. This town may have been captured by Freyda on her way to free Duncan in order to use as a base to build up her forces.

Rosado[]

Rosado is a town located in the Bull Duchy near Nelsham's Scar. During the Second Eclipse it was taken by Kiril on his journey into Heresh to capture the Mother Namtaru.

In the Shades of Darkness campaign map A Selfish Prayer for Light this town does not appear where it did previously on the map Fearful Symmetry. This perhaps indicates the town is no longer there. Given the readjustment of Bull Duchy territory from Heresh border that appears to take place before Queen Isabel's War it is possible this town was abandoned by the Holy Empire.

Skarena[]

"We are the stars of Elrath, reminders in the darkness, that a new dawn approaches."OffBck

Biography[]

Skarena is a 'Fortified Abbey' located in the Valley of Skarena in territory belonging to the Inquisition. It history begins in 111 YSD when a meteor crashed into the Valley leaving behind a crater. The morning after the meteor struck the Emperor Connor I was born. Seen as a blessing from Elrath, Dragon of Light, the Abbey was built on the crater with the star itself said to be part of the foundation. After many decades the monks residing in the Abbey discovered that their sandals had magical properties, thought to be due to the starts power.

Before the start of the Second Eclipse this Abbey was captured by Anastasya on her way to free Jorgen from the Inquisition.

Sheller[]

Biography[]

The residents of this town ended up serving a particular niche, their skill in metal foundry and molds led them to develop great expertise in the creation of all sorts of missiles. Their artisans excel in the creation of quality ammunition, rather than larger pieces.OffBck

Sky City (Hall of Memories)[]

Description[]

A vast city in the sky, floating around a set of mountains south of Falcon's Reach, this sky city was the location of the Hall of Memories and Archangel Michael's domain. This city has the has the shape of a cross with a ring in its center, in the middle of which is Hall of Memories. Near the end of each of the crosses spokes are multiple smaller cities. These are Ignis, Lux, Splendor and Metathron. All troops in and around the city, whether human or Angel were completely loyal to Michael and program of creating Celestials.

Biography[]

Shortly after the Second Eclipse, in an attempt to stop Michaels attempts to reignite the Elder Wars and to stop the creation of new Celestials from the Hall of Memories, this city was invaded by forces led by Cate Griffin and at least once of the late Duke Slava's Children. They succeeded in sending the Angel souls stored in the Hall of Memories to Asha and in killing Michale in the process but at the cost of Cate's life.

Slanteach[]

Biography[]

Slanteach is an underground town located beneath Falcon's Reach and used as part of an escape route. During the Second Eclipse the Falcon's Reach is assaulted by Demon forces under Ahribban and Emperor Liam Falcon is killed. Gwendolyn, Liam's niece and now Empress uses the escape tunnels to reach Slanteach. However due to the betrayal of Jezebeth, and held in Slanteach. In order to rescue the Empress, Duke Anton leads an assault on Slantech and captures it saving Gwendolyn.

Slanteach may just be part of Falcon's Reach and not a separate entity, though in gameplay it appears as a town.

Soaring Heights[]

Biography[]

A town located in the central mountains of the Holy Empire, located near the sky city containing the Hall of Memories. This city was likely captured in the attempt by Cate to end the Celestial program.

Sophia[]

Biography[]

This underground town, located under the mountains to the West of the Falcon Empire was operated by a faction known Twilight Knights, seemingly led by Jorgen. After the events of the Second Eclipse this town was used as part of the defense against the oncoming forces of the Army of Light and was likely taken.

The builders that constructed the strategically placed town of Southgate wanted to lay stout walls capable of withstanding any attack. Over the course of its tumultuous history, more than once Southgate has been saved by the defensive advantages supplied by those stone ramparts.OffBck

Stormchurch[]

Biography[]

A Church (except for game play reasons it is depicted as a town) located in the mountainous eastern regions of the Griffin Duchy. This was the location where Ishtvan Griffin became first Duke of the Griffin Duchy and was gifted the Sword of the Griffin by angels Uriel and Sarah. After Ishtvans death this became the location of his burial, away from his ancestors in the Mausoleum.

When the Wolf Duke Gerhart invaded the Griffin Duchy, shortly before the Second Eclipse, his forces pillaged the church, removing artifacts belonging to Istvan. This in turn promoted Ishtvan's restless spirit to cause havoc in the Duchy leaving Slava to defeat the spirit, recapture Stormchurch and return the artifacts.

Stormdale[]

Biography[]

Stormdale is located in a narrow, wind-blown ravine. Over the decades its fortifications have been refined so that the garrison is protected by gusts of air that throw enemy arrows astray. Any attacking force needs to deal with difficult ascents, uneven ground, and blasts of wind.OffBck

This town is located in the Wolf Duchy. During the civil war after Queen Isabel's War, this town was necromancer forces under Arantir and Ornella in order to make use of its nearby sacred site. Once this scared site and three others where captured Arantir could use them to destroy the magical barrier protecting Flammschrein. Biography[]

The Griffin town of Stromgrad is capital of the Barony of the same name. Shortly before second eclipse the town and Barony was under the command of Baron Djordje. Due to Duke Anton's brutality against the local Orcs and his persecution against those not worshiping Elrath, Djordje rebels. However Stromgrad is retaken and Djordje is slain.

Strongbow[]

Biography[]

Founded in an area full of field, brush, and forest, Strongbow has been popular with hunters ever since it was a tiny hamlet. Now by rights considered the archers' capital, it is the ideal place to get weapons, supplies, advice, guides, and quality taxidermy.OffBck

During Queen Isabel's War and the demon invasion, in order to secure archers for her militia army Queen Isabel captured this town. She then assembles 1 hundred or more archers.

During the Sixth Eclipse this town was mentioned by Beatrice (actually Biara in disguised) to have been taken along with Hardwick. Given Biara was manipulating Isabel when she was disguised as Beatrice it is unknown how reliable the information of the towns fall to the demons was.

The Reliquary[]

The Reliquary is a Fortress located in the Unicorn Duchy that the Order the the Reliquary uses to house artifacts too powerful for younger races and thus help prevent near genocides like such as the events of Uriel's Deception. Roughly one hundred years after the second eclipse, Raelag assaulted the The reliquary in order to acquire the ashes of Tuidhana, his mother. He managed to capture the Reliquary but spared its guardian, Orna (H6).

Timberwood[]

Timberwood's resource warehouse was a gift from the Irollan Elves to the Humans, in commemoration of the "Forest and Castle" Treaty. Now this vast forest, blessed by the Elves, produces twice the usual amount of wood for the residents of Timberwood.OffBck

There is a great mausoleum in Vigil, where famous warriors and heroes of the Griffin and Falcon Empires are buried. Displays of their weapons and tapestries of their exploits decorate the building, anyone in Vigil who goes to war tries bravely to be worthy of similar glory.OffBck

This signpost is held by three statues representing glorious heroes of the Holy Falcon Empire. The town of Vigil is known for its Hall of Heroes, and the priestess, knight and archer depicted here are all buried there. Strangely, these human heroes have all been sculpted with angel wings. It seems in order to learn their names, one must visit the Hall.OffBck

Vigil is a famous town located in the Wolf Duchy. During the the Second Eclipse this town is occupied by Naga during their invasion of the Wolf Duchy, though Duke Anton is able to liberate it. In later years, during Queen Isabel's War, rebel forces under Stephan who are against queen Isabel's rule rule lays siege to the town. Only the timely arrival of Necromancer Markal saved the queen.

During the civil war after Queen Isabel's War, this town was necromancer forces under Arantir and Ornella in order to make use of its nearby sacred site. Once this scared site and three others where captured Arantir could use them to destroy the magical barrier protecting Flammschrein. Unfortunately this process required the death of whichever necromancer was placed within the sacred site would be killed by the ritual.

The fables and fireside stories referring to the city of Vladikraj and the powerful monster that stalks at night in the surrounding Griffin Forest are known to anyone raised in the Duchy. When the Count who administrates the city is asked if the legends are true, he smiles and says that they are nothing more than tales to keep children in their beds at night.OffBck

Vladikraj is a city located in the Griffin Duchy, Southwest of Eastalon. Shortly before the Second Eclipse it is under command of Baron Yvana whom joined the Alliance of Temperance against Duke Anton. However Yvana would be defeated by the young Duke and the city brought back into fold.

Voron Peak[]

Biography[]

Voron Peak, or the Peak of the Raven, has grown immensely in wealth and reputation since the end of the Orc crusades six decades earlier, some say because its economy was not based on the Beastmen slave trade. This sign post attests to that wealth. It is chissled out of a rare red granite, normally reserved for the tombstones of nobles and the hearths of kings. It is considered the second capitol of the Griffin Duchy.OffBck

Though considered the second capital of the Griffin Duchy, it would later become capitol of the Raven Duchy when the Griffin family moved to the imperial province to lead the Griffin Empire and the Raven family was left in charge of former Griffin lands. Despite not using beastman slaves at the time around the second eclipse, it did use Orc slaves around the time of the Civil War in the Holy Empire of 970-973 YSD. In order to free and avenge the orc slaves this city was assaulted and destroyed by Ranaar Orcs under the command of Quroq.

A town active at least during Queen Isabel's War. During this war it was rumored that a demon cultist was found and executed there.

Westwall is a town of the Griffin Empire. During the evetns of the 6th Eclipse Zehir contamplated taking this town on his way to rescue the Griffin Empire. It was noted for its tough walls and and moats.

Whitecliff[]

Biography[]

This city is the capital of the Greyhound Duchy. It is located by the sea in the East of the Duchy. Whitecliff is also near the Empires Summer Palace. After the second eclipse the place was assaulted by Rosalie and a team of raiders in order to end a conspiracy by the Duke of Unicorn to marry Empress Gwendolyn. During the sixth eclipse, Nicolai sent queen Isabel there to keep her safe, though she did not remain there long.

Whitemane[]

Biography[]

This sign points in the direction of a barony known for its magnificent horses. The old baron himself is known to ride a white one, a tradition established since the naming of the town. The Baron said that Whitemane was the only person he could trust entirely. It was his horse.OffBck

Whitemane is town located in the Griffin Duchy. Though it joined the Alliance of Temperance in its rebellion against Duke Anton. Anton likely recaptures it.

This town may be captured though it is not part of any gameplay objective and is avoidable. It is likely preferable to capture it however on route to meet Cate in the Hidden House.

Wolfwood[]

Wolfwood is one of the oldest towns in the Wolf Duchy. During the Second Eclipse the town is captured by Naga, though it is later liberated by Duke Anton.

Yorwick[]

Biography[]

This city appears to be the capital of the Unicorn Duchy. It is situated to the far west of the Duchy and the Empire near its borders.
