Xanthor is a character that's briefly mentioned in Heroes of Might and Magic III, and plays a large part in Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer. He is also mentioned in several of the Nether Gods short stories. Xanthor is a university professor, and the court sage of Roland and Catherine.
Lore[]
Xanthor made many journeys across Antagarich. He had extensive knowledge of the creatures of the land, and a keen interest in geography. On his journey to Tatalia, he was accompanied by his colleague Marcus Finch and the guide Korbac, the latter of which saved Xanthor's life when they were attacked by some creatures of Nighon. Xanthor was also called in to advise the Royal Erathian Military Command after the death of Nicolas Gryphonheart, when General Kendal needed information about what was going on.
Roland and Catherine were at sea of the shore of Jadame when Escaton performed the Convocation of Cataclysm, and Xanthor was with them. There was a large Regnan pirate fleet in their way, so they were unable to land in Ravenshore until the Hero of Jadame had cleared them away.
Xanthor began to study Escaton's crystal and realized that the forces of the Elemental Planes were attacking Enroth. He asked the hero and their party to enter the four planes and retrieve a hearthstone from each. He used them to create a Conflux Key that allowed the party to enter the crystal and reach the Plane Between Planes in order to stop Escaton.
When Escaton's crystal was destroyed, Xanthor announced that when the Ironfists went back home, he would remain in Jadame, eager to study both the continent and the remains of the crystal.
Gameplay[]
Once the party has completed the Sink the Regnan Fleet quest, Xanthor can be found in Ravenshore. He gives the party the following quests:
- Bring the Heart of Water from the Plane of Water to Xanthor
- Bring the Heart of Air from the Plane of Air to Xanthor
- Bring the Heart of Earth from the Plane of Earth to Xanthor
- Bring the Heart of Fire from the Plane of Fire to Xanthor
- Find the cause of the cataclysm through the Crystal Gateway
