The guardians often drew on the power of the wire, using it to gather information or communicate. Sheltem used it to supervise the implantation of the VARNs onto Terra, and Corak used it to infiltrate Sheltem's starship in an effort to capture the malfunctioning guardian.

Novels[]

On the world described by Might and Magic: The Dreamwright and Might and Magic: The Shadowsmith, the Wire was used by the ruling guardians. Amonwelle described it as "an intangible conduit of incredible power that both nourished and dominated us"[1], and said that it connected and leashed them to the Ancients. One day, humanity rebelled against the guardians, taking control of the network and freeing themselves from the control of the Ancients. Some of the rebels, like Amonwelle and Dubiel, then used power of the Wire to guard over the rest of humanity, and called themselves the Wielders. Over time, their minds and bodies were altered, allowing them to lengthen their life spans and have children gifted with marvelous abilities. But Dubiel grew hungry for power, and started a war against the others to increase his own share of the Wire.

The guardians created some instruments to draw more power from the Wire, one of which was the Staff of Blue Light. Amonwelle feared that if Dubiel ever got his hands on it, he could establish his own link to the Wire and use it to take over the world[2].
