Tactics is a secondary skill in Heroes of Might and Magic IV. It is used to increase speed and movement of friendly creatures in the army.

Tactics is related to secondary skills Offense, Defense and Leadership. By default, knights and death knights start with this skill.

Tactics can be combined with other secondary skills, which grants hero an advanced class:

Basic[]

SkillBasicTacticsIV

Basic Tactics gives all friendly creatures +1 speed and +2 movement. It has no prerequesits.

This skill allows the hero to learn:

Advanced[]

SkillAdvancedTacticsIV

Advanced Tactics gives all friendly creatures +2 speed and +3 movement. It requires the hero to learn Basic Tactics.

This skill allows the hero to learn:

Expert[]

SkillExpertTacticsIV

Expert Tactics gives all friendly creatures +3 speed and +4 movement. It requires the hero to learn Advanced Tactics, Basic Offense and Basic Defense.

This skill allows the hero to learn:

Master[]

SkillMasterTacticsIV

Master Tactics gives all friendly creatures +4 speed and +5 movement. It requires the hero to learn Expert Tactics, Advanced Offense and Advanced Defense.


Grandmaster[]

SkillGrandmasterTacticsIV

Grandmaster Tactics gives all friendly creatures +5 speed and +6 movement. It requires the hero to learn Master Tactics, Expert Offense and Expert Defense.

This is the final level of Tactics skill, and does not unlock any additional skills. The hero can instead develop the Offense, Defense and Leadership skills, if needed.

Bonuses[]

Tactics has related spells and artifacts that also increase potency, by having:

  • ring artifact ring of speed equipped
  • legs artifact winged sandals equipped
  • helm artifact Mullich's helm of Leadership artifact
  • speed, haste/mass haste spells cast
