The Preserve is a great town for beginners. There are so many creatures to choose from, with really no major advantages or disadvantages between the different choices (see the individual creature pages for more information on the pros and cons of each creature). The preserve has a unique method of recruiting creatures in the Creature Portal, which allows you to recruit several more monsters.
The magic for the Preserve is Nature Magic. With it, you can summon almost any monster that you could recruit from your town, without a limit. This is great for distractions, or if you just want to defeat a weak army without losing any of your real creatures.
The preserve has two base hero types, archers and druids. Archers specialize in long-range combat. Their main skills are Archery. With higher levels of training, you can eliminate damage penalties or even shoot twice! Druids specialize in Nature magic, which can allow them to summon some really strong monsters, or increase indirect bonuses like luck and morale.
