The archmage is the fifth tier upgraded unit of the Wizard faction in Heroes of Might and Magic II, and is recruited by upgrading the ivory tower.

The archmage is superior to the mage in every aspect except damage, where they are identical. The archmage, while retaining the mage's ability to attack adjacent units without penalty, also gains a chance to dispel beneficial status effects on a target they attack.

While the archmage's hit points have improved from the mage, they are still low, so the archmage should take care to avoid enemies engaging in melee combat with them.
